Egg wash: water or milk?

You see it everywhere. Egg wash with your choice of using milk or water, but with no explanations. So, does it matter? Does one aid browning better than the other? I've also seen some calling for cream. Any difference there? I guess the deciding factor comes down to the fat content of the liquid, but I have no further ideas. What works best for you?

Milk and cream will brown more than water. Milk has sugars that will carmelize, and fat always makes things brown more.
