Looking for grapefruit cake

  • 3

I just finished reading an article in the Times mag about the Derby, Chasen's, and Mortons. But, what really got me hungry was the big picture of the Derby's grapefruit cake. I didn't even know there was such a thing! The recipe is listed, but I'd like to know if any restaurants serve it.

  1. I tasted it (from the old recipe) at a "Save the Derby" event last year. It's really fabulous! I don't think any restaurants make it, it's a bit old fashioned.

Though not quite the same, Damon's in Glendale does an Orange Layer cake that is very good in a sweet, retro kind of way. I highly recommend it.

    1. I think Clifton's Cafeteria might have it. I have a recipe for theirs from way back.

      1. Apparently you can still get this at the Brown Derby restaurant at Disneyworld. Here's a link the their recipe if you want to make it yourself.
