URGENT... Haggis Wine Pairing!

I have a screaming hot date arriving in 10 minutes and counting...

And... hehe... I'm serving her haggis... seriously... just my sense of humour I suppose...

I smuggled it back from Scotland at Hogmanay/New Year...

I'm Scottish and 1/4 Italian so I was thinking a little northern Italian red...

And although I do this food/wine match nonsense every day for a living I'll admit that I am BUGGERED when it comes to thinking up the perfect match here.

I have around 200 bottles of wine from all over, so please give me some tried-and-tested suggestions that you know work.

Thanks in advance!!!

This topic just popped up on my radar. The situation is long past, but I can't help thinking of the date "screaming" when informed that haggis was on the menu. Unless she was a heckuva good sport.

      Yes: Malbec, Shiraz/Syrah, Rioja,

      No: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir

I'm sorry, but I do not have the "stomach" for haggis, so a direct pairing is out of the question. OTOH, I'd grab a good Brut Rosé and hope for the best.

I am dying to know what you drank with the haggis, and what on earth your date thought of it.

I'm wondering why you served haggis to a screamingly hot date. But that's just me. I'm also wondering how the screamingly hot date went. Perhaps the wine(s) helped?

Perhaps the wine is the only thing the hot date consumed! Haggis isn't to everyone's taste - although a lot more people like it if you don't tell them what it is!

Personally, I love the stuff. I think it would go great with a nice Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Syrah or syrah blends are my number one choice here...

              Rioja would be close second...

A medium-weight red with good fruit and some tannins. Left-bank Bordeaux, for example. Though Northern Italy's a diverse place winewise, chances are good your red would at least be OK.

Scotch is the classic pairing, of course.
