Moderately Priced for Midtown Dinner

g

I need recommendations for moderately priced restaurants in and around Midtown Manhattan for our upcoming trip. Some ideas I had were Wollensky's Grill, Shun Lee, Compass, Joe Allen. Any other ideas in the same general price range would be great.
Thanks Chowhounds!

Since thre are literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from in and around midtown, it would help us narrow down the possibilities if you would tell us what specific cuisines you have in mind. Also, depending on how you order at Compass, it can be quite pricey, and Shun Lee isn't that moderate, at least for Chinese food. So, perhaps, you should give us your per person budget for food.

Btw, Compass is on the UWS, not in midtown. And though Shun Lee is in midtown, there is also Shun Lee West on the UWS.

Agreed - and I don't think of any of the Shun Lee restaurants as being moderately priced, though I guess the cafe might be - but I'm not a fan of it.

MMRuth, I actually cross-edited my post with yours to include that opinion re: cost about Shun Lee (and Compass).

Thanks for answering my question. We will go to Compass for their pre theater special on Friday before Lincoln Center....that will make it more affordable. Also, we do not mind going out of midtown on Saturday night when it will be easy to take a cab.

Af far as cost, I would think $40 per person including tip but no drinks would be about right.

          Thanks again.

We were at Compass 2 weeks ago for dinner and had a delicious meal. Highly recommended.

A $40pp budget that includes the tip (20%), leaves you about $32 for food. (And don't forget, there's tax at almost 9%.) Again, it would really have been helpful if you had provided your cuisine preferences. But that said, here are a few possibilities in the midtown area:

              Marseille - French/Mediterranean - $35 prix-fixe - http://www.marseillenyc.com

              La Bonne Soupe - French - http://www.labonnesoupe

              Trattoria Trecolori - Italian - http://www.trattoriatrecolori.com

              Uncle Nick's - Greek - Menu on menupages.com

Wu Liang Ye - Szechuan - Menu on menupages.com
