Preparing "Tip Steak"?

Hi there--A friend who just bought half of a grass fed cow had many different cuts of beef in her freezer and gave me some "tip steak" to experiment with. First, what is tip steak (I've consulted Julia Child's and Ruth Reichel's cook books and can't find the term--I'm sure it is called something else). Second, does anyone know good ways to prepare this cut? Thanks!

  1. Perhaps it's a steak cut from the tri-tip roast? If so, marinating and a quick grill or roasting to medium rare is the way to go.

    1. The tip steak is the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds of meat that sits at the bottom of the sirloin. It cooks well on the grill either as a steak or a roast.
