Where can I Find the Best Mexican Restaurant in LA?

Please help. I'm looking for a great Mexican food restaurant for a special evening. Any advice would be very helpful.

Thank you!

  1. The best I've been to is Frida's on Beverly Drive, south of Wilshire, in Beverly Hills.

    1. The Talpa on Pico W of Barrington ain't fancy, but it's awesome, been there for over 40 years.

      1. For a special evening, I'd consider any of these four:
Babita - San Gabriel Blvd. in San Gabriel
Chichen Itza - 2501 W. 6th St. near MacArthur Park
La Serenata di Garibaldi - on 1st St. in Boyle Heights (the original branch)
La Casita Mexicana - 4030 E. Gage Ave. in Bell

I loved the food at La Huasteca, but the two times I went the enormous mariachi band was so loud that our party found it nearly impossible to talk, and most of us ended up with headaches. Also, I seem to recall hearing it had closed. When was the last time you went there?

I think only Pasadena closed. Lynwood is still open as far as I know.

La Huasteca was the best mexican in Pasadena but unfortunately it closed. I'm yet to have very good mexican anywhere in the LA area. I've tried Frida and it was good, but nothing spectacular. If anyone knows of a really good mexican place in LA, Pasadena or Glendale please post!!!!!

As discussed above, La Huasteca is still open at their Lynwood, CA location.

is a recent discussion on Mexican in Pasadena & surrounds.

            2. What area in LA suits your fancy? That would help us point you in the right direction...
