Sarah Musgrave reviewed this restaurant in today's Gazette, & gave it a favourable review. This is the Vietnamese restaurant on Parc Avenue at the previous Au Cyclo location. Anyone here eaten there? They feature several Vietnamese dishes that's very hard to find at other Montreal Vietnamese restaurants.

I think the Gazoop got the name wrong. My memory of the sign is that it's Feuille de Menthe. That's also how it's listed at Canada411 and in the Voir review.

I tried this place out about a month ago... I went there expecting to find some of these "vietnamese dishes not often found at other vietnamese restaurants", but can't say I was all that impressed with the choices offered.

Yes, it was much more than the usual/typical pho or bun ga from all the vietnamese fast food places on St-Laurent, but still, mostly, it consisted of a selection of different sautes.

Maybe I went there, hoping a bit too much I'd find things such as.. Banh Xeo? Bo Bay Mon? Banh Cuon?

Nonetheless, the food (I had some lemon grass beef, if I recall correctly), price and service was good, the decor is cozy and nicely done.

Pros: The cha gio (spring roll), made with rice paper, which tasted amazingly good! Something I haven't often seen in any restaurant, actually, I think I've only had it when my mother made some...

Cons: The incredibly slow service. We waited about 45 minutes before even getting our entree soup. Everyone in the restaurant was visibly annoyed with the slow service (and also the mixup in orders happening on tables besides ours), which, from what we were told by the waitress, was because the kitchen is simply too small (and not because of lack of staff). Perhaps something to keep in mind if you ever get in there and see that the place is packed (which it was in our case, on a saturday night).

I'd still recommend the place, but maybe not on such a busy evening...

I was there last week at lunch. Unfortunately their lunch specials are very run of the mill pan-Asian fare. I must say however that everything I had was a cut above the average. The quality was there, but the service was just a bit off. Hopefully they will iron out the little problems with time.
