Dallas/Plano -- Restaurant w/live mariachi

Looking for a decent Mexican restaurant in Dallas or Plano with a live mariachi band. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. It's not a mariachi band, but last time I went to Aparicio's in Plano on a Saturday there was this.....adorable (can I say that) old couple singing and playing guitar and wandering around while I ate. Unfortunately the tortillas I got tasted a little old, like they were made the day before.

    1. I'm no expert on Mariachi bands, but if you're willing to take a trip to South Irving, there a place called El Comal Restaurant that has fantastic food and a live band on weekends. It's a small place, and the band is loud, so don't expect to talk much. It was packed when we went and everyone was singing along. Oh, and the band had a harp which I thought was pretty cool. Everyone seemed to be ordering some crazy huge tower appetizer that had maybe 7 different items on it. It also came with a huge bowl of white queso that they set on fire.

I haven't been in a while, so I'd call to make sure they still have mariachi bands on weekends.

I wouldn't steer you to a place with bad food just for the entertainment. :-)

El Comal has excellent food for the price. And I just found the menu!

The crazy appetizer we saw must be the Parillada Para Cuatro.
The Tablitas (beef ribs sliced crosswise) are excellent.
The catfish dishes are far above what you would expect.

I don't live in Irving anymore, but I think I just talked myself into going back soon...

        2. You can't beat El Ranchito they have mariachi music on a daily basis, and great food! It's more than just the food though, it's authentic Mexico.
