We will be driving from Santa Monica to Palm Desert ,and would like to enjoy a nice dim sum or any kind of Asian food lunch. We are from out of state so any info will be appreciated.

If you want a really great lunch, go to Oriental Seafood Inn in Venice..It's on Lincoln Blvd., about 3 doors south of Washington Blvd. on the east side of the street (Phone # is (310) 306 9088). They don't have Dim Sum, though they do have some dumplings, but their food is fantastic. I suggest you order the Fresh Lobster in Black Bean Sauce (get no less than 2 1/2 lb. - it's just $9.95 per lb.), Chinese String Beans w/Chili, and white rice. Trust me on this.

Suspect you'd want to go as far east as possible, so the Hacienda Heights/Rowland Heights area would be your best bet. There are a number of postings on the board concerning restaurants in that area. One is noted below.

Or if you're too hungry to drive to Rowland Heights/Hacienda Heights, there's always the eastern side of San Gabriel Valley (accessible via the 10 or 60 freeways). There's Monterey Park, Alhambra, San Gabriel, and Rosemead. Do a search on any of those cities, and you'll turn up quite a number of things. Don't forget the ubiquitous dim sum houses in Monterey Park like Emperess Harbor, NBC, and Ocean Star (all located within 1/2 mile of each other).
