Making sushi at home

  • 4

Hi there!

I am contemplating having an at-home sushi making night and I have never made sushi before. I was wondering (hoping might be a more accurate word!) if you had any tips or recommendations on where to get all of the ingredients/supplies?

I live on the UES so any place in that area would be ideal, but am willing to venture outside of the area.

Thanks!

  1. The best place to get all the ingredients in your area will be Katagiri (224 E 59th St # 1). They have a variety of sashimi (pre-slice but cut into small pieces) as well as nori and sushi-su. Actually on Fridays they have the freshest fish available, so today will be your perfect day to go!

    1. there is a japanese supermarket in edgewater, new jersey across the hudson river that carries pretty much all you need to make sushi including sushi 'molds' to form the rice...to me the secret of sushi is how the rice is made/marinaded....then the quality of the fish (sashimi) piece comes second......enjoy.....btw they have a shuttle that takes you directly to their doorstep scheduled several times dailyfrom port authority and back for $2 each way.

      1. the name of the place is 'mitsuwa'
