San Francisco Bay Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

Orsi's Santa Rosa closed, "replaced" with Bistro 29, french/brittany influenced.

I was on my way to an appointment on Wednesday, and as I was walking up 5th street, I noticed that Orsi's Restaurant was closed (sad! Wanted to try this place. ): ), and there was a large paper banner in the window announcing the opening of a new place, Bistro 29. I believe the sign read that they would be opening on Feb. 2nd. Took a quick look at the menu posted by the front door and noticed tasty-sounding (and relatively affordable!) food, including buckwheat crepes with various fillings including duck, Monterey Bay sardines with potatoes, and a caramel/sea salt ice cream. If I recall correctly, (didn't have a chance to write anything down and I don't have the most photographic of memories) the most expensive item on the menu was just under $30.

The head chef/owner is Brian Anderson, formerly of Cafe Lolo and the Applewood Inn. (both places seem to have had positive reactions from chowhounds, so this bodes well I think)

I hope to check this place out soon...but hopefully others will get there soon and report back. (:

Here's a link to a short blurb about it from the Press Democrat...the bit about Bistro 29 is about halfway through the article: http://tinyurl.com/352p62

  1. Updates on Bistro 29? I've read that it offers a 3-course dinner for $29.
