Pasha in Studio City.

Last night we went to Pasha as dinner guests of a friend whose Mom is Lebanese. The restaurant itself is OK in a glitzy, ventura blvd kind of way, but pleasant. Most of the staff was at the bar watching CNN, Our waitress was sweet and service excellent. Well, at 7.30 pm on a sunday nite, we had the place to ourselves. Later another party came in.
The menu starts with 2 pages of mezze (starters) hot and cold, the basics and some unique things, shredded meats, brains. Our host ordered us the mixed starter which was very good Hummus and creamy eggplant, delicious tabouli, mostly chopped herbs, dolmas that were fresh and tasty, but best of all a WONDERFUL dip of ground walnuts and red peppers.
Entrees are basic kabobs, chicken, lamb, beef, minced and herbed etc. I went healthy and had chicken breast kabob, which was perfectly charred juicy and fresh tasting, others had the minced kabob and lamb, were consumed instantly, which I think says it all. Also came with that creamy salty garlicy sauce, yum, and a good rice and an excellent wheat pilaf.
For dessert we had the most delicious pastry, with sweet boiled milk, syrup, orange blossom water, cream and chopped pistachios. Like a VERY fresh, but not too sweet gulab jamen. I believe the waitress comped the dessert in honor of Chris' Lebanese heritage, and in thanks for our patronage in these sad and complicated times. We turned down the turkish coffee, since we all hoped to sleep that night!! So our waitress brewed us a fresh pot of reg "american" coffee, which was a nice end touch to a lovely meal.
The prices were reasonable, given the fresh quality of the food, about the $12 range for most entree items and the starter combo, less of course for the individual mezze. Sure, Zankou Chicken is about half the price, but hey I think Zankou is kind of Funky tasting.
As most of the party were not drinkers, I just had an OK glass of pinot grigio. But there was a wine list I did not take a peek at, next time. Also next time we will try other mezze, and a huge order of the walnut dip!!!
