Jackson 20 Open in Old Town Alexandria

Because I was an excited foodie geek, I had to check out Jackson 20 in the Hotel Monaco on their opening night last evening. They were quite busy at both the bar and tables but the friendly staff were on their toes and really making sure to tend to the patrons needs.
We grabbed a drink at the bar (try the Honeysuckle) and watched the open kitchen as Chef Jeff Armstrong (who coincidentally is running a kitchen just next door to Chef Cathal Armstrong at Eve!) oversaw the dishes comming out of a humming kitchen. His menu focuses on local ingredients with an emphasis on Southern cuisine.
Fried chicken, Hopping John, greens, meatloaf and crabcake were very good and I'd put them at the same price point as Majestic, up King St. (in fact, the menu is somewhat similar). More 411 on my evening here- http://houndstoothgourmet.com/a-peak-...

I was too full for dessert but perusing the dessert menu has me thinking that I'll be back soon to check out the bar menu and order something for my sweet tooth!

Just wanted to let y'all know that Doggy Happy Hour has started up again at the Hotel Monaco. Jackson 20's bar menu and drinks are available. Service is tableside. I got to try the shrimp corn dogs-delicious! http://houndstoothgourmet.com/dining-...

It sounds interesting. I didn't see a menu on the website. Do you remember what else they had and if they have any vegetarian entrees?

Yes--they do. And, too, the chef is terrific and h, I'm sure, would tweak an item with meat to make it vegetarian or do anything for you. I know there is a three cheese penne and a vegetarian soup of the day--this is what I can remember offhand. There are also some terrific veggie sides. Everyone raves about the creamed corn in particular.
