Palm Springs food diary
Roy's Rancho Mirage was extremely disappointing. I think they are just too new to expect a well-run establishment (I have a rule about not going to new places for the first 3 months, which I broke). My fish was so undercooked I had to send it back, the waiter was not well-trained or familar with the menu or food preparations to answer our questions very well. I am sure the experience is much better in Hawaii where the fish is fresher and it's probably a bit more laid back. The chocolate souffle was very good, but not worth going back for. I'm sure its a good place once they get their act together, but I think it's too soon to tell at that location.
A lovely little discovery we found was a Coffee Shop-type place called Don and Sweet Sues. The food was tasty and the service was outstanding, prices reasonable.
Specifically about Roys - They are all over America and are co-owned by the company that brings you Outback Steakhouse, Fleming Steakhouse, P.F.Chang, Pei Wei fast food, etc. Not just Roy Yamaguchi cooking in the kitchen as was the case at 385 North in the days of old.
Don and Sweet Sue's is a local tradition in Cathedral City. My home is only a few blocks from there and it is a treasure. In the winter it is filled with many a Canadian "snowbird".
