Orleans House Green Goddess Dressing

HSBSteveM Jan 31, 2008 07:37 AM

Oh, how I miss the Green Goddess Dressing on the salad bar at Orleans House in Rosslyn! I am going to try to replicate it at home, but before I start, does anyone know if the recipe was ever published? I was there on the final weekend before they closed. All I could get the waiter to tell me was two ingredients - Avocados and sour cream. For those who are familiar with that wonderful Martian-colored creamy dressing, help me find the recipe or let's brainstorm on what might be in it.

Kraft still makes a Seven Seas Green Goddess Dressing. It's available online and at Harris Teeter. Tastes nothing like the Orleans House version; theirs gets the color mostly from avocado, but the bottled stuff is predominately from parsley.

I'm going to bid on some of the kitchen gear. There's a nice copper sauce pan I got my eye on.

Betcha anything you'd come real close by pureeing ripe avocado into some homemade ranch dressing (and by the way, homemade ranch beats bottled by a mile - there are recipes all over the web.)

          1 avocado, peeled and pitted
          1 cup mayonnaise
5 anchovy filets, rinsed and chopped
          2 tablespoons chopped green onion
          1 tablespoon lemon juice
          1 clove garlic, chopped
          salt and pepper

The stuff I put in mine. Don't know if it is similar to the Orleans house but you can play around with it to suit your taste. Good luck!

(you can also use sour cream instead of mayo.)

I came up with most of these ingredients as I was scheming up my recipe, but the anchovies are a great call!

I'm getting in the car right now. The stuff is kind of a throwback to the 60's, but it's addictive.
