how long does ground beef keep in the freezer?
I know this is a really boring question...
Can someone tell me how long it's ok to keep ground meat in the freezer? I have a lot leftover from July 4th that I could use for chili come superbowl sunday but is it way past its useable date? Thanks!
As long as it was well wrapped (to protect against acquiring off flavors), it'll probably be fine in chili.
Like ricepad said, if it was well wrapped it will last a real long time. I don't think making burgers with it would be the best idea, but for spaghetti or chili or something like that, you are probably just fine. Aside from off flavors what you really want to look out for is freezer burn, especially around the edges. If there are a lot of ice crystals and the meat looks kinda shriveled (dehydrated) it might be too far gone, although you may be able to just get rid of those portions.
