  1. Paul's Cafe and Cafe Bizou, both on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks just outside of Studio City, come very highly recommended (by me).

      It's gonna be hard to get into Bizou on such short notice even/especially in the wake of 9/11. Might have a better chance at Pinot Bistro. Or, try Sparks.

    2. I realize it is too late for your need of the moment, but the best Studio City restaurant at plausible prices is Emmanuelle (sp), an American Bistro owned by Tom Munoz, the former head chef and co-owner of Joe Joe's in Sherman Oaks. He's now on his own, and it really shows. Sushi at Katsu Ya is a revelation at modest (for sushi)prices. The new Tournesol, the former Portofino, is very good, but priced like Pinot Bistro. Have heard some good things about Cafe Ruffino. La Loggia is always good, albeit a bit more expensive as well.

      1. A bit too late... ok, a LOT too late... and maybe you're not checking this thread anymore... but, for what it's worth...

        Studio City == sushi;

        There are any number of places to get sushi, from Iroha on Ventura/Coldwater Cyn (across from Coldwater Bistro) to the ineffable Sushi Nozawa (all you need to say is "omakase" and let him do the rest) (and no, I have never seen anyone get thrown out, contrary to Nozawa-san's reputation).

        If you're not into sushi, there's always standbys like Gaucho Grill or the Great Greek (which is, technically, in Sherman Oaks but it's just outside of Stud City on Ventura).
