Kosher Balsamic Vinegar

morah Jan 30, 2008 02:58 PM

I am desperately seeking good Italian balsamic vinegar in Toronto. My supply from the states is running low and it’s a regular staple in my home. While I’m at it I would like to find Kosher white truffle oil as well.

The kosher balsamic I usually get in NY is Bartenura - can you buy it from one of the online kosher groceries?

There are two kinds of Bartenura- regular and reserve. I find the regular one acceptable for grilling and cooking but not for say dressing a salad- it is too rough. The reserve is quite good and retails for about $14.00/bottle and they sell it at Kosher City on Bathurst north of Lawrence and at Pusateri's (Avenue and Lawrence). I am sure Sobey's in Thornhill would also have it.

I have never seen kosher white truffle oil in Toronto( you may be pushing the envelope a bit). I would imagine that they may have it in Paris (not much help to you in Toronto) or perhaps you could contact one of the high end New York restaurants such as Solo or Le Marais. Another thought would be to speak to the chef/owner of Marron (kosher French bistro on Eglinton ) and he may be able to help you.

      Good luck!
