Sakagura - what to order?

bdurrett Jan 30, 2008 08:02 AM

Hi - I am headed to Sakagura tonight with a group. Only been once and loved the place but my order was handled by a veteran.

Any one have recommendations?

Many thanks!

I love practically everything there but particularly loved the duck with basil sauce. The sashimi and kimchee over rice was tasty too. The seafood, particularly raw (sahsimi) type items are also very good and fresh. What I recall is that the daily specials are always great. The one disappointment was the gomae oshitashi (spinach dish) whose microscopic size did not justify the expensive price. If you're overwhelmed by the sake, try the sake flights so that you can explore a few options, and go from there.

Order whatever will best help you soak up the sake. To tell you the truth, the sashimi isn't really the best, here. Desserts tend to be good.

Definitely the sake flights. To soak it up, if they have tempura scallops in shiso leaf, they are the best. My Japanese friends love their noodles, cold or hot.

When I was there for dinner they had a grilled toro dish as a special which was absolutely phenomenal.
