Wow, another child-hood flashback. The Sonics I remember in Texas had pretty good burgers, as fast food goes. And my favorite thing there was the cheese tater-tots. Very middle-Americana. They are literally tater tots with a slice of American Cheese melted on top. Definitely not a healthy choice, but hey I was a kid. The fun thing is it's a drive-in. Very much in that American Graffitti sort of way, you drive up and the server comes to your car window. I'll have to look it up if I'm down that way.

I'd have to second Vanessa's recommendations. If it is indeed the same as the Texas chain, they serve above average fast food burgers and tots. The hot dogs are nothing to write home about, but not bad either.

Their "specials" are usually worth trying, as are the lime-aid and other fruit drinks if offered.

My favorite was called, I think, the Texas burger. Peppered meat patty, with mustard and onions. MMMMMM

It is the same chain, follow the link below...

I prefer the #2 over the #1, but that's just personal preference.

These things fueled many a cross Texas road trip after I soured on Dairy Queens.

FWIW, I think the chain is from Oklahoma. Their cherry limeades are fantastic! As is the drink they call "ocean water" (not sure what's in there...)

The one where I grew up used to serve pickle-o's. Hamburger pickle slices breaded and fried...they were great (but not that healthy...)

WHAT? Breaded pickles aren't health food? That's the only reason I've been eating them. I'm going to have the check out the rest of the advice I've been getting.

Any other places where these can be found?

            1. re: brian

Any truck stop in Arkansas. Locally, I think they're available at Johnny Reb's in Long Beach.

It's been a while since I've been there, but B.B. King's in Universal Citywalk used to have them. Dee-licious!

      3. has it come to the point where we're afraid to go to a fast food restaurant without checking in at

i'm sure the 2 dollar burger will be fine...
