Best picks in Stamford, CT,

specifically near Stamford Office Wrecking, without a reservation, on a Saturday night? Any cuisine with the exception of sushi or Indian. *sigh* - hubby won't go there.

An impossible request?

TIA for all feedback.

  1. Are you guys willing to travel under the hwy and into downtown area? There's not too much going on by Stamford Wrecking....the first 2 that come to mind are Crab Shell & Paradise, which are both eh.
Adamclyde may be able to weigh in more on the latin scene over there which I am not familiar with.

    1. I think Ocean 211 would be hard to get into without a reservation. And be aware, it is pretty pricey as well. All of those restaurants I mentioned above are within a 2-3 block radius. If you're up for it, you could walk down Summer, turn right or *soft* left, and be able to pass by all those mentioned above and see what you're in the mood for.

If I had to guess though, I imagine you'd be able to walk into Zinc, Dunn's, SBC, or Duo.

It will really depend on what time you're in town, but I guess that's part of the reason you can't make a resvervation in the first place.
      :)

Amanda, please do tell about the Mexican place again since your post has been deleted.

Its a little teeny place on the left side of Summer just before you hit Ocean 211. I thought it was called Meira (?) - but I could be wrong.

          1. re: amanda3571

Unless it's changed, Meera is an Indian restaurant, not Mexican.

The only Mexican on Summer that I'm aware of is La Hacienda.

            1. re: Zobot

I'll have to drive by tomorrow and look. It's across the st from La Hacienda. It might not be there anymore, but I swore I saw it just the other day. It opened maybe 5 or 6 yrs ago. Perhaps Meera took over the space.

              1. re: Zobot

Zobot, you are correct. Meera is Indian. There used to be a good Mexican place in that same spot. Don't know when they closed. Too bad. Sorry for the bad info.

Oh, I'm still in search of a good Mexican in the area - somewhere to dine, kitschy would be good, and not just grab a quick taco in a no atmosphere kind of place.

                    Thanks, everyone.

Since we should be ready for food at approx. 5:00pm (but can't commit to a reservation), we'll look into Zinc, Dunn's, SBC, and Duo.

Dolores, I think you'll be fine to go anywhere at the time! Let us know where you ended up.

It's a bit of a drive from Stamford, but I think you might like Rancho Alegre in Georgetown. Good Mexican food served up with a roving band of guitar playing balladeers should provide all the kitsch a girl could want. ;-)

Thanks, Zobot. I'll add that to the list.

Eclisse is sort of close to Stamford Wrecking.

Thanks, monty clift. I guess this will be the best choice, since hubby is not adventurous and liked Eclisse when they were in Rye.

Spazzio - Chicken Scarpiello or Parm - personal pizzas...

Fiesta Cove - Peruvian -Pollo saltado, chuletas, or lomo saltado - try the aji con pan y mantequilla!

Plateau or Ocha - try the chicken cocnut soup - at Ocha, chicken Pad Kee Maow...

I am VERY picky and these places are pretty good for several dishes....

Oh, I've been to Rancho Allegre! Yes, the decor is fun but the food fairly blah to me. Not interesting enough to get me back there, but maybe I should give it another try.

Oh, and as for Eclise - I do like that place. Definitely go with a hearty appetite!
