Yankee Doodle in New Haven Closed

JackNH Jan 30, 2008 04:46 AM

Yes, the Doodle is gone. It's one of those places I seldom went to, but am depressed to hear it's out of business. A chain restaurant with a microwave, like Au Bon Pain across the street, is not a substitute.

Having eaten hundreds of breakfasts and lunches there 40+ years ago when I worked in the immediate area, I'm ashamed to admit I haven't patronized the Doodle since then after changing jobs. I feel like a person that always meant to go see an elderly friend or relative but never found the time till they were in the casket. "Cats in the cradle."
A little piece of New Haven has died. RIP A new owner wouldn't be the same.

Donut's cut and fried on the grill with ice cream was pure genius.

There's a movement afoot to bring it back; see http://www.yaledailynews.com/articles...

Although I live in NY State, I happened to be in New Haven last week after the Doodle closed and I was very happy to find out today that there is hope for the The Yankee Doodle to reopen!
