The only Chinese restaurant I've been to in Santa Clara is Tong Soon Garden for Shandong, Korean-Chinese, and that was a while ago. daveena often recommends China Stix.

You'd have a lot more choices if you'd open your boundaries to Cupertino, next door, such as Fatima.

And that China Stix rec is only for the Northern Chinese breakfasts on weekends - I don't think I've seen any Northern Chinese dishes on their regular menu. Although, they do have completely separate menus in Chinese and English (I could only read enough to tell that there seemed to be no overlap), so I suppose it's possible that they're there.

Thanks for the Fatima recommendation. Ate there last night since I was in the South Bay with a friend. It was semi-crowded for a Friday night but no wait for a table at 7:30. My friend from NW China did the ordering while I went to the restroom and this is what came to the table:

1. Lamb & Sour Cabbage soup (or warm pot as they call it)
2. Green Onion/Sesame Seed Bread
3. Housemade chewy noodles
4. some Flat Fried Egg/Tofu dish

The dishes were all pretty good and the portions are so big. The warm pot could easily feed a 1/2 dozen more people. That was my favorite dish of the four; it had that tanginess that I found appealing. Service was quick.

Bill was $34 before tax/tip. I'll try some other dishes if I'm in the area again.
