Sara Moulton is back! New PBS show begins in April

Very thrilled! Occasionally visit her web site and today there is a link, http://www.saramoulton.com/recipebox...., indicating she will be hosting a new show, Sara's Secrets for Weeknight Meals, on PBS sponsored by WETA out of Washington, DC to include 20 new shows. REALLY miss her, loved her as the host of Sara's Secrets on the Food Network and used to love watching Cooking Live years ago in Chicago while I prepared dinner. She is so unassuming and friendly, yet very professional and knowledgable. Will be thrilled to see her on PBS - welcome back Sara!

  1. Wonderful news - thanks! Her blog is quite nice - was just checking it on the link you posted. I was interested in her comment that people seemed more inclined to get recipes off the internet rather than buying cookbooks. My husband would love that to be the case with me, but it's not.

    1. Whoo-hoo! Thanks for sharing the good news, Diane.

Well good for her, both on her new show and for getting far away from FN.

      2. Finally, news about a real chef returning to TV, and not about another actual chef losing their spot among the "quick/fast/easy/lowest common denominator appeal" hosts.

        1. Finally is right! When I met her a couple of years ago, she had said that the new show would be airing *last* Spring, so I'm relieved that it's finally happening!

Katie Nell, you met her! How cool.

I bet she's as 'real' in real life as she appeared to be on the formerly good FN.

            Am I right?

It was very cool! She was at the Culinary Center of Kansas City, and she did a cooking demonstration and they served dinner from her Weeknight Meals cookbook. The book was included with dinner and she signed everyone's copy as well. She came around to everyone's table and chatted and took pictures. She said she was 5'-0", but I felt like I towered over her at 5'-1"... she called me another little shrimp too! She is very much a hippy in person, and extremely down to earth.

Thanks, Katie. Funny, that's how she comes across on television -- although I didn't realize she was a fellow shortie!

I wish her well in her new show, I am SO glad she landed on her feet.

DH's "theory" about what happened to Sara's FN show was that Jasper White (a guest) put her in his pocket and left the studio with her.

          2. PBS, Thank you for letting us have Sara again.

Food Network was way too amateur for her.

            1. This is great news as I just lover her. I learned so much from her show.
It's great to see PBS invest in her and recognize that she's truly wonderful.

              1. Oh I'm so glad to read this! Many thanks for this wonderful news. I loved her early show and all the interesting chefs she introduced to the public at large. Welcome back Sara, indeed!!

                1. Wow, that IS great news! Sara is the real deal. and completely unimpressed with herself. If anyone could qualify as "The Next Julia," it is Sara.

Well, obviously: Sara was one of the assistant chefs on Julia's early '80s show, Julia Child and More Company.

In fact, we have a framed photo of Julia in our kitchen, an at-work candid that Allstonian's father (a photographer) took during an assignment covering that show. The young Sara, looking almost exactly as she does today, is quite visible in the background over Julia's shoulder as Julia is bending over her work surface.

I've heard that the kitchen for Sara's Secrets was deliberately built to proportion for her tiny height: if you ever see an episode, look at the guest chefs, they always look bizarrely huge.

                  2. Great news! I'll look forward to it.

I haven't met Sara in person but I have spoken with her on the phone in connection with my job and she was super-nice.

I don't see this listed in our area, has anyone seen it yet and if so, when is it on in our area.
                      Thanks,
                      Mary

Looks like 2 episodes have aired already - I wish PBS would put the shows on Sunday instead of Saturday. I always have errands to do or am off gallivanting around on Saturday afternoons. And if shows *are* repeated, they're at 5:30am on different days. Shoot. I gotta join the 21st century and get either TiVO or a DVD-R. :-)

and I wish they didn't put the best cooking shows on during meal times! I am preparing a lunch at 12:30 for goodness sakes...

                      2. that is great news! something else to add to my DVR list- thanks for the update!
