Seattle: Great Vietnamese?

kerrywa Jan 27, 2008 07:49 PM

Hi Hounds -

My mom wants to do a fun, 10-person dinner the night before Chinese New Year. Any suggestions for a great Vietnamese place? We'd like something that is beloved by the local Vietnamese community. Suggest away!

    I'd call Tamarind Tree.

Read the many, many threads on Tamarind Tree and Green Leaf. GL is probably too small for your group, though, so TT is probably your better bet.

The website is seattlejasminerestaurant.com and I just ate there last night. I am going to write a full blog about it shortly, but the food was almost all spot on (we did have an over/precooked shrimp issue. They are clearly trying really hard to make this an awesome place. I reccomend the jasmine blue pearls (like a vietnamese scotch egg: quail egg in pork paste in crispy blue rice) and the baby clams (just a hint of spicy aftertaste. Everything we had was quite good, I will def. be returning.

Try not to be overwhelmed by the novel they call a menu!
