Looking for a good place to go Friday night before a show at Tipitina's- nothing too fancy, but nice...

Dick and Jenny's. A couple of blocks down Tchoup from Tipitina's on the uptown side.

Agreed. No reservations, so give youself some time to enjoy a drink of their patio while you wait for a table.

I've never been to Dick and Jenny's (and they are closed this weekend anyway), but kicking myself for forgetting about Casamento's- Thanks for the tips so far

One thing I don't miss about living in New Orleans is the mess the city becomes around mardi gras, such a pain especially when I lived uptown. I would imagine Le Petite Grocery wouldn't be out of the question.

Just remember that C's has dinner service on Th-F-Sat evenings only (besides the regular lunch service, I mean).

Not sure how casual you're looking, but there's also Theo's (pizza), Nirvana (Indian), and Storyville (really excellent burgers, etc.) very nearby. And Pascal Manale's is definitely a doable walk down Napoleon, and (just) off the evening parade route.
