I am putting together a basket of goodies for a friend who is recovering from surgery. I would like to add things that are relaxing, such as food items. Any suggestions?

i've always found cardamom to be very soothing...so maybe something like this?

chamomile tea...if that's something they like, is also very calming, and ready to drink chai beverages are also very nice.

carbohydrates help with stress and such......how about some lovely scones with a different jam, jelly or marmalade?

I would think, that the the focus would be on treats that might make someone happy, and other items that would not require preparation.

So much depends on what kind of surgery.

What you can eat after knee surgery is quite different from what you can eat after gall bladder surgery.

tea is great but depending on what the recovery may be like, your friend may appreciate some precooked meals that they can just reheat. Maybe you can make arrangements w/some other friends to keep him/her supplied while they are out of commission.
