bacon grease vs pork fat?

Hi folks,

I have a recipe here that calls for me to toast some chiles in a little pork fat before using them. I only have bacon grease on hand. Can I use it? I realize it's probably much saltier but since I'm using such a small amount I figured I'd have a go at it.

I have used it that way. As you remark, it's salty. As well it may be smoked, sugared, etc. depending on what type of bacon you buy. I have used it in place of lard to flavor and reconstitute canned refried beans.
