We are going to Okinawa, our first time, for several days in early March. We're looking for the best places for Okinawan cuisine. The few previous posts mentioning Okinawa focused mostly on restaurants elsewhere (Tokyo, New York) serving Okinawan food, or restaurants in Okinawa serving Tokyo-style sushi or other non-Okinawan cuisines. We'll be on our own and are going strictly as tourists -- no connection to the military or any local businesses.

We've traveled a lot in Japan, and, though we speak little Japanese, are very comfortable gesticulating and pointing our way around at restaurants where no English is spoken.

Where should we go for unforgettable food?

Also -- any recommendations on hotels or ryokans with memorable food?

Thank you.

You are in luck, there are two resturaunts you might wanna try omoro dunchi or sui dunchi , ( sui sunchi is closer to the airport ) both resturaunts are 100% traditional okinawan and very nice inside. omoro dunchi has a web site , bad thing is it's all in japanese, so just click around you're bound to find some pictures, and I waork at sui dunchi, it just opened last october and is just like its sister resturaunt. for more info e mail me at bigchainy84@yahoo.com, you will NOT be dissapointed.
