What to do with leftover bread?

I have about four rolls of chewy, tough bread. I would hate to throw it out since it is just about five days old.

Any suggestions? And oh yeah, I am vegetarian. Eggs are ok though.

Thanks!

Surprised I haven't seen a suggestion for Pappa al Pomodoro (bread and tomato soup). This is soooo good and absolutely requires stale bread. Here's a Mario Batali recipe from the FN: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recip...

Big, toasted croutons with homemade tomato soup poured over them. Or just sliced and toasted with gryere and floated on creamy butternut soup.

Make a hearty soup and wash the bread down with the soup.

        Put it into meatloaf.

        Feed it to the birds.

            bread and butter pudding

slice your rolls into half inch thick slices.

butter a baking dish, then butter both sides of your sliced rolls. Arrange in your dish.

mix a couple of eggs, milk, lots of sugar to taste, nutmeg, a little cinnamon, and a handful of raisins together. Pour over your bread till it's just covered, let soak for about 10 mins, bake till brown and fluffed up. sprinkle with some sugar. Eat and get fat!!

bread salad is delicious--brush with olive oil, stick under the broiler for a watchful 2 minutes or so, then add to your favorite salad things

do a search for the zuni chard onion panade. labor intensive, but super comforting and delicious--it's like eating semi solid onion soup.

Savory bread pudding - leeks and mushrooms with gruyere is a good combo.
