East Falls: Recommendations?

I know that Center City is just a hop, skip and a jump away... but, alas, medical school doesn't allow much time for eating out--or anything else! Any hidden gems in or within a few minutes (literally) of East Falls? I'm game for any type of ethnic food and enjoy both hole-in-the-wall places with great food and fancy pants places with great service to match. BYOYs and restaurants with liquor are both fine as well. Anything but chains restaurants, really! Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

    i'm curious about this too.
the only place down there i've eaten at was Johnny Manana's, and the food there didn't impress me that much. still a fun place, but seemed better for drinking and snacks than lunch or dinner.

Frankie's Trattoria under the Twin Bridges was good, moderately priced Italian

Try Casselli's on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough. The food is excellent. I never had a bad meal there.

The Ugly Moose on Shur's Lane in Roxborough has a great laid back atmosphere and great bar food. I love their burgers and I think Tuesday is buy one get one free burger night. They usually have some sort of special, be it burgers, wings, etc. Good selection of brew, too.

Mt. Airy is only about 10 minutes away. The one reliable bar/restaurant on Germantown Ave. is McMenamin's. Terrific beer selection and pretty decent food that includes typical bar fare and full dinners. The Chicken Tenders and fries are way above average. Good wings, too. At the other end of the Avenue in Chestnut Hill is McNally's with great burgers and sandwiches.
