Big Loss on Causeway Street

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the rumors about the demise of Mulligans sandwich shop on Causeway Street across from the Garden are true. The entire building has been sold and is being converted to a Holiday Inn. Mulligan's last day is Thursday. Just another small step in the ultimate Mall-fication of the entire City. Other than the sports bars, I don't there's one independent place for real food remaining in the Bullfinch Triangle.

  1. I hate chains, too, but Mulligan's wasn't exactly Tim's Tavern. It was a sub shop, and based on a few sandwiches I had there in 2007, not an extraordinary one, just okay, and not exactly cheap. I'd rather go there than to Quizno's, but if I really wanted a sandwich, I'd head over a couple of blocks to the North End, say, to Mangia Mangia, also independently owned, and minus the annoying golf theme.

WOW. I dont often disagree with you but Mulligans was the real thing. What does the annonying golf theme got to do with Chow?

I'm thinking the best turkey sandwich Ive had outside of home.... turkey thick cut and still warm from the oven...real stuffing...a bit of cranberry relish...a single piece of lettuce...butter AND mayo!!

I will miss Mulligans a lot. And I never had morning after "regrets" like I always did at Tims. Ive never understood the Tims aura...it was really gross.
