Morcillia (Blood sausage)

Where can I get some really tasty morcilla in Manhattan? I'm gonna brew up a heaping pot of fabada (w/real fabes) and you just can't do that without the morcillia....

You can certainly get it at Despana and Dean & Deluca - I am not very fond of Despana's version. I prefer the long, substantial links you can buy from Luis at Essex St Market; note, this is the Latino-run meat stall, not the more central butcher, Jeffrey.

Luis? Ok, now that's a lead. How ever much i like Despana, their Morcillia is kinda bland.

The Argentine Pavilion on 46th (or 45th?) between 5th and 6th has a Mixed Grill with delicious Morcilla - delicious with that parsley-garlic dipping sauce, you know, Chimi-something-or-other. I don't know whether or not you can get just Morcilla, however, but the Mixed Grill (minus the Kidneys, for me) is delicious.

I've seen it frozen at Despana foods in Soho.

It's fresh at Despana. For a fabada, I'd definitely get the onion morcilla there. It's also my go-to for cocido.

I don't know what real blood sausage tastes like, but the one at L'Express is fabulous.
