Louie's Alive and Kickin Lobster

Has anyone ever been to Louie's Alive and Kickin' Lobster (269 Putnam Rd) in Cambridge near the River St. Whole Foods? Their sign says they have fresh fish, scallops, lobsters, shrimp, etc. It's in an inconspicuous residential area, and I never knew it existed even though I've driven past it probably 20 times. It looks like it could be one of those hidden neighborhood gems...

Does anyone know when this place is open? Can't seem to find on the net and a friend told me the hours are a little weird...

The couple of times that I've been there around 4:30-5 or so on Saturday, they've been open. Lobster salad to go to make rolls at home. Quite good. Very fresh haddock and swordfish, good prices.

We've loved the fresh seafood purchased there.

Is Louie's on par with New Deal and Courthouse Fish stores in East Cambridge?

The selection is MUCH more limited than New Deal or Courthouse.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant on par in terms of quality, not expanse of selections.

In my limited experience, yes. The quality is as good as New Deal, but as Gabatta said, the selection is very limited. I have purchased lobster to cook at home and scallops as well and both were very good.

I typically go to New Deal to see Carl and have him tell me what's especially good. Last time it was a piece of halibut that was divine.

We have had some great tuna steaks from Louie's.

I've had their lobster sandwich which is a nice, but never bought fresh seafood there.

Is their lobster sandwich "Connecticut" style, in that, it's just plain buttered lobster flesh and there is no mayo/celery business?

It is lobster and mayonnaise between two slices of buttered scali toast. It costs about $10.

It's been a while but I've gotten the lobster sandwich there and it was quite good. I didn't realize there was a Louie's before Alive and Kicking.

I've been dying to go try their lobster sandwich, which does it up in between grilled toast.
