Agh! I used to work in Riverdale. Food options aren't the best. But there are a couple of gems. Piper's Kilt for burgers. El Malecon for chicken and mondongo.
If you want to stay in the area for some food shopping, the best is the Gourmet (?) store on Broadway and around 235th Street, near Loehmann's.

Best food within 15 minutes is in the Belmont section (Italian). Do a search on Arthur Ave.; you'll get plenty of posts.
In Riverdale, I like Siam Square for Thai (with some interesting fusion specials) and Leibman's is a good traditional neighborhood deli. Golden Gate offers a time capsule of 50's Cantonese food; don't try anything that smacks of Sichuan, etc. but their spareribs are truly outstanding, and the lobster with burnt pork is excellent. Down on Broadway and 231, try the Latino choices at Malecon or Economico.
Yonkers seems to be coming upscale on with the opening of X2O adding another high-end place to Belle Havana and Zuppa's. They're only a few minutes from Riverdale.
For food shopping, BTW, we zip down the HH to the Harlem Fairway. It's only a few minutes from the HH Bridge and parking is no problem. There's a "gourmet" market down on Broadway south of 234th that has more than the relatively limited choices in the Riverdale supermarkets, but parking there is not easy, and if you park in the Staples lot across the street, you can end up towed.

I know almost nothing about the Bronx, being a native of Queens. My love of the Mets keeps me far from Yankeetown....but, I have heard that there is a great Irish neighborhood with Irish grocery stores and restaurants up in Woodlawn. I've been meaning to take a trip up that way to check it out.
