private room with patio for 30

canddlovegreatfood Jan 24, 2008 01:26 PM

Looking for a nice private room with a patio for approx. 30 people for June - we are open to either substantial cocktail party format or passed hors d'oeuvres followed by a sit down dinner. Would go with Quince (love their food) but no patio. Am in the process of contacting Caren's wine bar. Was hoping to find something around $45-$60 pp (food only, before taxes and tip) and that has a reasonable selection of wines $35-50/bottle - but will go higher if we need to if we find the perfect spot. Looking for a really nice patio (ie. kind of secluded, greenery). All ideas much appreciated.

The Miller Tavern has an amazing patio (see pic at link). Their set dinner menus for groups range from $55 to $75pp. They have a cocktail menu for groups too. The only issue is that some on the board are really critical of the food, however I don't think it's that bad, just not life-altering memorable ;->

oh dear - it looks great but we are pretty particular about good food - doesn't anyone have any other ideas? There must be a great patio, good food, size just right for a group of 30?

George on Queen has an amazing patio and fantastic food. You might be able to get them to give you the whole patio. http://www.georgeonqueen.com/

Il Posto Nuovo also has a nice patio with good food (although I haven't been back in a few years). http://www.ilposto.ca/home.html

Boulevard Cafe on Harbord has a secluded patio with some greenery, if you like Peruvian food. El Bodegon, another Peruvian resto on College, also has a nice patio that would have room for 30.

Brassai on King West might be another option.

A second, emphatic vote for George's patio -- really beautiful. Food and service are both excellent.

Brassaii would be a fun, funky option. It's a courtyard off of King St. Not much greenery, but it's got a great feel with the brick paving and surrounding by old brick buildings.

Boulevard Cafe and El Bodegon (two great Peruvian spots) are great, but they are very casual (think green plastic patio chairs). If you want an informal vibe, then these would be good choices. The patio at Boulevard Cafe in particular is vine covered and overlooks a quiet street in the Annex.

Had thought about Brassaii but maybe not the vibe we want - it's our post-wedding party (I have an aversion to the word "wedding reception") after getting married on board our boat - really just a party (no cake, no chicken dance). Hadn't thought about George but will give them a call - have eaten there twice and the food was excellent (wines by the glass not so great, but won't be an issue here). A friend suggested I get in touch with La Maquette - they have said they will partition part of the patio off for us. Any reports on that place (for food, dealing with management, atmosphere etc.)?

The atmosphere is nice enough, but I didn't enjoy the food at La Maquette so I've never gone back.

Auberge du Pommier has a private room and a really nice patio, but they're not beside one another, if that's what you had in mind. I imagine a patio connected to a private room may be tricky to find...

Anyone been to Fuzion? According to their website, they have a secluded garden patio in back with gazebo, suitable for wedding receptions -

This looks perfect! Exactly what we are looking for - I'll be calling them today - might try to go by for a drink/bite to check it out today - thank you so much - will let you know how it works out.

looks good on screen but you're right, best check it out in person. Hope it works out.

Another suggestion is Biagio, which has a secluded outdoor area with a fountain in a courtyard, at least that's how it was described to me, haven't been myself -

Food at Biagio is kinda meh.

Check out Le Select Bistro: http://www.leselect.com/eventindex.html

I just called there (as I'm also planning an event) and it sounds perfect for you. They have two private dining rooms that each seat 40, and they open onto a secluded patio which is in the process of having a retractible roof built.

            Good luck!
