Clay Pot

  • 1

There are two restaurants in Austin with Clay in the name. The Clay pit near the university for great indian food.

The other is the Clay Pot. This is a soup place in a shopping center on Parmer Lane, but they offer something completly different as well. There is a buffet where you pick up the raw ingredients, meat fish shrimp, cabbage lettuce sprouts and more. Then select a table. Soon the server will arrive with a gas burner, broth and condiments and a lot of stuff my wife didn't recognize. You make up your own soup, some chicken, little beef, pork, fish, veggies, noodles, hot sauce, They'll cook it for you at the table or you can do it yourself. The broth is great and the rest is up to you. I've never been to a place like this, it's worth a visit just for it's uniqueness.

To find it from Austin head noth on 35 and get off at Parmer Lane. Cross the expressway and take your first right. You'll see a driveway which is the back entrance of a shopping center anchored by Walmart. There are some other pads with three or four stores each. TheClay Pot is in the south end of the center.

  1. They do great shabu-shabu (basically asian fondue) and pretty reasonable prices from what I remember.
Good alternative to Melting Pot with a more casual and less expensive atmosphere
