It's just around the corner guys, wanted to know where you were going?

We went to Turner New Zealand last year. It was good, but looking back I'd rather pass on the tasting menu and go for a la carte. It was not cheap either - 125pp.

  1. I never, EVER go out on Valentine's Day. If I'm going to spend $100+ per person at dinner, I will do it on a night when not everything has been pre-cooked and stored in a cooler for a night or two.

I will be making finger foods and creating a nest for my loved one. We're probably going to go to Napa Rose the following week, though.

How is Napa Rose? Worth the trip from SFV, or am I better off going to an upscale place closer?

        Ditto.

        Going to Providence on Tuesday...

      2. Staying home...picking up live lobsters (and maybe oysters) from Fish King that S.O. will steam. Probably serve with some sort of potato dish and spinach. Possibly making Meyer Lemon Sorbet for dessert.

        1. A singles bar.

But I like Pastis on Beverly for the understated romance.

          2. Not being a couple -- I'll likely go to a bar for a few drinks and probably a no-fuss dinner at home or at a lower-key restaurant that's not doing some V-Day prix-fixe dealy (which, as others noted, tend to be overpriced and suffer in quality).

            1. We have tickets to a dress rehearsal of Otello at LA Opera. Last Valentines Day we had Taper tickets, and we tried to go to Koo-Koo-Roo just south of Disney Hall, trying to stay away from the 'restaurants'. We miscalculated the buildings/parking entrances and ended up at Tesoro for $65/person (running late and couldn't back-track). Grrrr.

We might bring PB&Js to eat at the Music Center plaza rather than suffer what we all are complaining about.

              1. Jja Jang Myun for me and my friends :) probably on olympic and harvard.

                1. We are having pre-celebration with 3 other couples at Melisse the week before.

                  2. We're celebrating V-Day at Pizzeria Mozza on Friday night. Can't wait!

                    1. Probably a local burger joint...

                        Well played :)

                      2. Fraiche, though I heard the chef left. Anyone know about this?

I had lunch there Wednesday and he was present and accounted for. Also, I seem to recall that Jason is an owner, not just the chef, so even less likely that he left.

                        2. one year anniversary on the 18th so we're going to cut on that day.

                          1. My SO & I are going to Gabbi's Mexican kitchen in olde town Orange. They're not doing a prix fixe menu - just the usuals with a few specials.
