Happy Hour & Non-Bar Apps/Tapas in Dupont

My friend and I will be grabbing a drink and hopefully there will be some good/non-greasy apps or tapas at the place we go to (as in stuff besides nachos, calamari, etc). I'm looking to stay in Dupont/Logan Circle area. We're looking for a place that would hopefully have some wine by the glass specials and reasonably priced apps. A place like Hudson is too expensive (some of the drinks are out of control) and I'm not a big fan of Firefly. Any suggestions in Dupont?

  1. I was going to suggest Hudson but that seems to be out. Considering that I don't think Hudson is too expensive for small plates/apps I would have to suggest Kramerbooks and Afterwards...you can get the sharsies platters which are ok.

You might want to try the bar at Sette Osteria for appetizers or pizza but that might be around the same price range as Hudson.

I know it's not in the area you are looking for but not to far off at Farragut West is Taberna Alberdero for their excellent tapas and sangria happy hour. Really the best deal and food in town if you are willing to expand your location a bit.

Hudson's drinks are outrageous and their apps are quite pricey if you're just grabbing a drink. I wish my budget didn't think so but that's not the case. Kramer's doesn't really have much of a bar/happy hour scene. Thanks for your suggestions but can anyone else think of other places?

There is a seperate bar from the main dining area at Kramers and if you are getting food I believe you can sit at the tables as well.

I second kramers. Their wines by the glass are decent, and you can have the Sharezies.

Also, there's Urbana, which I believe had $5 wine by the glass and cocktails, plus specials on pizza and some other small apps.

      3. I agree on Taberna del Aberdero it isn't that far from Dupont.

        1. Is Topaz too far south? They have a very cute bar menu, happy hour drinks, and select half-priced snacks. http://www.loungedc.com/dcbtpz/menu.html

          1. Would you enjoy cheese and charcuterie at Veritas? Excellent wine list, though I don't know if they have "specials." It's at Conn. and Fla. by the Russia House.

There's been some good press lately on the happy hour drinks/apps at Urbana in the Hotel Palomar (can't vouch personally).

I think that Vapiano also has good prices for drinks at happy hour...in a similar vein, Circa might be OK.

Poste is not in your immediate area, but it has wine specials every day at happy hour, and special pricing on some items off the bar menu.

Helix used to have drink/food specials at Happy Hour. I haven't been there in a while so I'm not certain that still happens.

            1. what about sushi? a lot of the sushi places offer pretty good happy hour specials, i know there is one on P near the circle... also, ooni... i don't know if that is the right spelling but it is south of the cirle and has happy hour... i personally love M Street Bar & Grill and i know they have happy hour specials but it may be the typ of food you don't want (calimari and such) you would have to look at the menu.
