ISO Name of Tuscan (?) White Bean-Potato Mix Baked w/ Olive Oil, Rosemary & Garlic

In a small trattoria, I remember eating a dellicious and unusual side dish that I think was semi-mashed and comprised of slow cooked white beans, potato & garlic bathed in olive oil and seasoned with rosemary. Does anyone know the name of this dish? I am stumped.

  1. There's no potato in it usually. Those were the beans that had cooked down or you just happened to sample a variation of the original Tuscan recipe.

Google ' Fagioli alla Toscana' ... or simply ' Tuscan beans' for recipes.

Thanks for your speedy reply, CheeseBoy. I know there were potatoes in the bean mixture because the wife (of the owner) took me out to her back garden to show me where she'd just dug them. Most of the potatoes were in visible slices and likely some were mashed as were some of the beans. It could have been something she improvised. It was a delicious, unusual side dish and one I have used over the years particularly with lamb. I've simply had no luck remembering or finding the name.

Ah-Ha! After only six months of hunting, I've found it! "Purea di Borlotti agli Odori". Marcella Hazan (MARCELLA'S ITALIAN KITCHEN, pg. 250) has a recipe and it is very very close to what I remember.
