Azami Sushi Good

Although it's near my house, I just tried Azami Sushi for the first time. Azami is located on Melrose just west of LaBrea and the interesting thing about it is that the sushi chef/owner is a woman. Very rare. The chef comes from a family who run a fish company, so the fish quality is excellent and her selection of appetizers and prepared dishes are original and delicious. She says that they have definitely been evolving and learning as they go, so if you tried it when they first opened, you might want to give it another try. Last time I was there we had the Tuna Twister, which is seared tuna wrapped around asparagus, similar to Roku's Filet Mignon wrapped asparagus and just as tasty. The large scallops were special that day and we had them sushi style, and she also baked the rest of the scallop in the shell with some amazing sauce and served it to us. The fresh Spanish Mackerel was phenomenal, as was the rest of the fresh fish, and her salads are superb. Give it a try!
