Has anyone ever had a good knish in Boston ?

Please help me find a place that has good (i will even take decent) knishes in the Bean ? Whenever I am in NYC (Yonah Schimmels) but would love a closer option.

Help !

I noticed that Pie Bakery and Cafe in Newton Centre has potato and onion knishes, don't know if they're any good but this thread might motivate me to get one.

it's funny that you mention the pie bakery as today a coworker brought me their menu and i notices that they had knish on the menu. i will always try one and one day maybe i will find a good one here.

The ones at The Butcherie are pretty good.

I usually just stock up when I'm in NYC, though.

me too. you can get them shipped from schimmels overnight but you really have to have that craving. luckily i get to nyc enough that i don't completely go cold turkey.

The potato knishes at Michael's are excellent. The pastrami ones are very good. The others, I don't like.

Not exactly in Boston, but Joan and Ed's on Rte 9 in Natick make their own. Very good. Just remembered that the Butcherie in Brookline sells them. Also had theirs, but they're the small, New England version -- yellow and oval with meat filling. They're what I grew up on, so Iike them better than the NY square versions.

hey there. i have lived in the bean for 20 years but i cant get into those small yellow knishes. i guess growing up in brooklyn and going to places that were opened in 1908 & 1930 i can't get into that kind. plus i am vegetarian so the meat ones don't do it for me.

I never saw or ate a potato knish until I met my husband, who's from NY. I still can't get used to them. When I hear "knish," I automatically think small, yellow, and meat-filled. My husband recently took me to Yonah Schimmels and I didn't care for any of the many varieties I tried. He hates the small, yellow ones, by the way! :-)
