Udupi Palace SF

Reebob tells me that a sign in the window of Firecracker says the Mission District spot will become Udupi Palace, the vegetarian Indian restaurant with locations in Sunnyvale and Berkeley.

Tablehopper says it won't be Udupi Palace until the end of April.

As of a couple days ago (the last time I walked by), no. Peering through the windows, it looked like the seating was in place, but the space appeared to be fairly unfinished.

Any news as to when this place will open?

Lets hope it is like the Sunnyvale location. Their Berkeley store is very hit or miss.

I'm happy to hear that the folks running Udupi are coming to SF. They are a nice family and they should do very well in the Mission.

Does Firecracker have a liquor license that Udupi can take over? The Udupi in Berkeley is BYOB.

Man, it's about time we got an alternative to Dosa in the city ....

I seem to remember sticky sake cocktails, so they probably have wine and beer.

The transfer of a type 41 (beer and wine only) license is pending.

I also saw the signs a couple of weeks ago in the window about the change in the restaurant. However, today there is no change-in-ownership sign in the window, the Firecracker neon sign is lit, and the restaurant looks the way it always does. There is zero indication on the doors or in the windows that the restaurant is closing. Did Udupi's takeover fall through?

Here's a link to the pending license status summary, if you want to track it for changes.

It'll still be Firecracker until the end of February, in case anyone wants one last Firecracker meal.

Thanks. ABC records confirm the change in ownership. That's certainly good news for South Indian cusine fans (and incidentally vegetarians).
