Chicken Fried Steak at Pines

PHIL Jul 27, 2001 07:39 PM

I finally went to this Pines place in Palmdale because I kept reading how they make the best chicken fried steak. And I like chicken fried steak. Well, they make the same kind at Norm's, only Pines is bigger and with more gravy. but without the garlic cheese bread. It was the kind you can't cut with your fork. You have to work at it with your knife. Not my favorite kind of cfs. I've tasted better. If you want to know where I've tasted better, they are Rae's in Santa Monica on Pico and Darby's Coffee Shop in Canoga Park on Sherman Way and Desoto. They're good and they're CHEAP. Under 5 bucks!! I've also tasted worse. They are Dupar's and Harry's Family Restaurant in Burbank. And while I have never tasted it, Twain's in Studio city use chicken gravy on theirs. (yecch)

Another place to avoid the CFS is Astro in Silverlake. They serve a sausage patty in gravy and call it CFS. Otherwise, a fine establishment.
