It's technically in Jefferson Parish, it's literally just outside the city/parish line. It's more of a lunch type place, not a lot of tables, nor does it offer table service. The same guy owns it that owns Jacque-Imos (sp?), so there is always a good chance that something from the restaurant wioll be on special. I don't recall seeing any desserts there the last time I went but even if they had them I doubt I could have eaten one since I was so full from the poboy I had just eaten.

They generally have a bowl full of homemade brownies or cookies wrapped in saran wrap for sale.

I've been once before, had the blackend gulf fish plate and the roasted duck po boy. Yes, that would be a lot of food.

Crabby Jack's is essentially a prep kitchen for Jacques-Imo's, because the kitchen at J-I is pretty small. You'll find a few items overlapping at each place, but the "specials" you see on the boards--the entrees--never change. And yes, they do have cookies and brownies, and if there are none in the bowl, ask for one and they might have something hiding in the back.

If you know where Lowe's is, on Jefferson Highway, it's right across the street from there, just about.

Physically in Jefferson Parish but address is New Orleans as is the address of Ochsner. Something about "unincorporated New Orleans".

There is no such thing as "unicorporated New Orleans". There is "unicorporated Jefferson Parish" however. If you check the zip code of Crabby Jack's, it is a Jefferson Parish zip code.

It's just outside the corporate limits of New Orleans, I believe.

Yes, it is just over the parish line into Jefferson parish, not within the city proper. It's in ZIP code 70121, which contains a small piece of New Orleans (Orleans Parish) and the unincorporated Jefferson Parish neighborhoods of "old Jefferson" and "Shrewsbury". Not nearly as confusing as ZIP code 70123, which you will see in combination with addresses for Harahan, Elmwood (technically just a business park), Jefferson (an unincorporated area), River Ridge, as well as New Orleans, even though the entire ZIP area is inside Jefferson Parish.

Let's say I am driving down river road (Leake Ave.) from St. Charles towards Causeway. At what point am I in Jefferson Parish?

Just past the train tracks....it's obvious if you look b/c you'll see the earthen 'levee" with a slight cement floodwall at the parish line. Just ever so slightly upriver from the big Oak St. drinking water intake facility.

So H.C., is Crabby Jack's in the city of New Orleans, but it Jefferson Parish?

Or is it in the city of Jefferson and in the Jefferson Parish?

Thanks. I always got confused about this. Doesn't Claiborne also become Jefferson Hwy at a certain point, and that's when it becomes the new Parish?

                  Thanks again.

NOTHING in Jefferson parish is in the City of New Orleans...all of Orleans Parish is the City of New Orleans. The city & parish of Orleans are one-in-the-same.

Thus, Crabby Jack's is in an unincorporated part of Jefferson Parish. And you're right about the switch from Claiborne (in Orleans parish) to Jeff Highway (in Jefferson parish)...the change in nomenclature happens right near Crabby Jack's.

There is a sign. :) And Celeste is right, it's very close to Crabby Jack's.

I'm trying to figure out why this is SUCH a big deal. The restaurant is maybe 200 yards from the parish line...

I was wondering the same thing. What difference does it make what Parish Crabby Jack's is in? Kevin needs to invest in a map or use "mapquest"!
