Best Special Occasion place on the westside?

Our 1 Year Anniversary is coming up and I have the assignment of choosing the restaurant in which to celebrate. So I am looking for recommendations on the Westside (Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Culver City, West LA).

I was thinking about La Cachette because I've never been there and always wanted to go. Having a big wine list isn't important because we aren't drinkers. Attentive, not snobby, service is preferred.

Looking for somewhere romantic and quiet. Husband doesn't like Indian or Mexican).

TIA

How about Buffalo Club on Pico in Santa Monica....? nice ambience - soft-lit, leather and naugahyde type place with very good comfort food - not as refined as a Melisse, but perhaps a little less formal. great bar on the patio, with bands sometimes playing in the summer. Worth checking into.....

How about Melisse? I've been there a couple of times and had first rate service (not snobby at all). The dining room is beautiful and it's pretty quiet, too. Good for romance! The food is probably some of the best food I've had and it's presented beautifully.

Wherever you go, have a happy anniversary and many more to go!

        Definately considering Josie and Melisse...

        Thanks to all that replied

Congratulations! We actually just celebrated our 1-year anniversary. After thinking deeply about what restaurant would be good enough to deserve the honor of our presence on such an important day, we decided to have the caterer (Fritto Misto) prepare us the exact same meal as we had (or, more to the point, didn't have a whole lot of) at our wedding. It was even better than we remembered.

Not sure if that would work for you, but just felt I should toss that out...

That's a very sweet idea, but the food at our wedding wasn't really worth reproducing. It was good but not as gourmet as I would have chosen.

We are considering going back to where we got engaged which is Beaurivage, but considering all the bashing it has received as of late, maybe not.

Josie's, (2424 Pico, Santa Monica), although I hear they are booked up two weeks in advance, (but that may just be for more popular nights/prime dining hours?).

My business partner loves La Cachette. I like it too, but find the service to be a bit on the formal and or snooty side at times. I also always have a hard time spotting it on little SM Blvd.,(about a block and half west of Beverly Glen?). Seems like I have to drive by once and then go back.

Wherever you go have a wonderful, magical, memorable 1st Anniversary. I will always remember ours, we drank a lot of champagne and started our (now) 13 year old son that night. :)
