Don Pepe's In Queens

Anyone been there lately? Anyone been there lately? I used to go there often but I haven’t been there in a long time.
Is it still very crowed? Do they take credit cards yet, they didn’t in the past. And is their wine selection any better?

I don't get the haters. Maybe it is what you are ordering.

1-The baked clams are the best anywhere and are always the same. The consistency is amazing. The are the same every time.

2-Pasta-The linguine vongole marechiare is without peer. That is "Pink" clam sauce in case you never tried it.

3-The chicken scarpariello is unique. No sauce, tons of garlic and super crisp.

4-The Veal Don Pepe is nothing short of addictive.

5-Many love the Chinese Chicken. Which is chicken, but not Chinese.

6-Shrimp Luciano-light and fresh. Hard to beat.

      7-Homemade sausage and peppers.

8-The veal with eggplant is superb.

Look there are some ordinary things on the menu, just stay away from them. But then again, that is true of any restaurant.

Oh, nearly forgot. Try the lobster fra diavola over linguine.

I have been eating there forever and the food has been amazingly consistent the entire time.

Are they the same price for lunch as dinner? I've never been but a friend of mine goes, and raves over the veal with salad on top? I forget the name, sorry. And she save the linguine with white clam is exceptional. Do you concur?

The Veal with the salad on top is the Veal Don Pepe. It is exceptional.

The white sauce is great. The Marechiare is the next level. It is not on the menu, but if you ask, they will do it.

No it is not. You must have someting else. The Veal Don Pepe is a pounded breaded veal chop with tomato and onion salad on top. They only stopped using tomatos for the few weeks of the salmonella scare. The veal is thin enough and tender enough to cut with a fork.

Overpriced, unintresting red-sauce food, pathetic wine list, and a shlep. Go to Queen or Cono O'Pescatore instead.

still as awesome as ever. no cards -- there's no reason for them to start at this point in time -- and no discernible change in wine choices (though the mystery house wine has its charm, no?). reminds me that i need to pay a return visit -- it' s been a few months for me as well!

I guess I'm not as wine savy because I like don pepes wine I even find the lack of warmth from the waiters fun and interesting and the majority of customers the same. Most of all I love the food. Travel from eastern long island for the baked clams anytime. Life is short enjoy it
