Mardi Gras in Mobile

My wife and I have a one year old and wanted to see a more--how to say--family friendly version of Mardi Gras. I've heard that Mobile tends to cater more toward family, but am wondering if it's worth the 3.5 hour drive to see Mardi Gras over the weekend. Are the parades well attended? Are there special treats at bakeries and/or restaurants? Just want to see if this is worth the drive or more a local touristy trap. I plead complete ignorance to this holiday (I'm from PA), so any insight is mucho appreciated.

Mardi Gras in Mobile tends to be more by locals, for locals--not that there aren't visitors, but as Mobile doesn't have the same sort of daytime (or nighttime, honestly) activities as New Orleans, they don't get near the number of tourists. It is considerably more family-friendly than New Orleans (I've been to both, although I haven't been to either one in well over ten years--not that they change a whole lot).
