What happened to Bischero in Athens,GA?
Greetings! This is my very first post. Wondering if anyone knows what happened to Bischero? I've heard that two partners (from Atlanta?-- did they own something there already?) opened a yummy, yummy restaurant back in 2003. Then they sold it about a year and a half ago- is that right? Why did they sell? It was OK after the change in ownership, but never the same. Now it looks closed-- anyone know what's going on? Is there a restauranteur ready to fill the space? I just hope that there's not another Quizno's.
Well, I can't tell you anything useful, but the food at Bischero was never very good, except for the pizzas, which were excellent, but I was always very weary of anything that came out of the kitchen. So, if there was a change in ownership, maybe it would make things better. One of the owners opened a fresh pasta place last fall in Watkinsville, called Mikro or Mirko, which had very nice fresh pasta and is worth a visit. Hopefully someone can tell us what's going on!
I think the guy who runs Mirko in Watkinsville was an original owner at Bischero, though he runs the front of the house at Mirko, not the kitchen.
The food at Mirko is very good. They have a Rube Goldberg-esque pasta machine on site, so the pasta is fresh and the preperations tasty.
The restaurant changed hands and reopened under new management on January 24. The new owners of Bischero are Anthony and Thomas Encrapera. Anthony has a degree from Le Cordon Bleu, which is part of the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh. Tommy and Anthony have worked at The River's Inn at Gloucester Point, Virginia. They also worked at The Boca Raton Resort and Club. Anthony worked under Chef Hubert Keller at the Fleur de Lys Restaurant in Las Vegas.
