Headed to Vancouver, need resto suggestions

mxjxharris Jan 17, 2008 03:27 PM

Hi all,
I am headed to Vancouver, BC with some friends at the end of February, and need suggestions for a fun, casual, vibrant restaurant with amazing food and drink. Good decor is a must, and the service needs to be top-notch. No chain recommendations, please.

There will be about eight of us, so not a small party, but not a large one either.

    For "fine dining" and "bistro"
West, Rare, Blue Water, Chambar, Elixir, Aurora are good choices.

    For Asian:
Hapa Izakaya, Kingyo Izakaya, Kirin, Tojo's, Sun Sui Wah are solid.

If I were to narrow it down to just two recommendations, they would be West and Hapa.

Great recs by fmed, but I'd also add Goldfish, particularly because you've asked about the decor and a vibrant scene. It's in Yaletown and always seems to be buzzing.

Just so you know the Vancouver International Playhouse Wine Festival is going on at the end of Feb (25-2)

I'd suggest Sanafir, Italian Kitchen, Parkside (might not be vibrant enough - usually good on the weekends). I'd second Chambar - pass on Elixir - it was poor the last time I was there. West is fairly upscale - but amazing food.
